The Apostle Thomas

History shows that the Apostle Thomas (left) went to India in the first century which resulted in the India Church becoming a mighty force in that nation. Over the centuries the India Church went through many transitions.

Many Men, such as Sadhu Sundar Singh  were visited by our Lord to bring change to His nation. His impact was so influential that the “Journey to the Sky” film was produced to capture his life.

In light of the above, we wish to highlight a recent link to the church of India that a Missionary envisioned through a program in Trinidad.

Success Story

In 1952 India required all missionaries to leave their nation. At this time, one family was on their way back to the USA but his ship instead came to Trinidad where he saw people situated there who were from India.

Between 1953 and 1954, Rev. and Mrs. Kaare Wilhelmsen came to Trinidad with the responsibility of establishing a missionary work. Their labour was not in vain as the Lord was with them and worked wonders. The Pentecostal Church was on the north of the island focusing on outreach. The Wilhelmsen’s got permission to come to the south of Trinidad and concentrated on the East Indians primarily.

The Result: In the last 50 years, over 80 churches, outposts and missions successfully outreached to other countries, and a number of “support services” such as theological and educational institutions were established.

Open Bible Trinidad has spread across the island. But the ministry has also reached to other Caribbean islands; into the South American continent and even into Europe, USA and India.

Today, many Trinidadians return to India with the Gospel.
